There is a similar butterfly dome in Houston. They used to sell the specimens that had died for $2 each, but they had to stop doing that for legal reasons.

P palamedes is the most common swallowtail in the Houston area. They are everywhere.

My guess is that many of the legs have already broken off from being pressed into the cotton. If that is the case and you don't mind losing a few more, just hold the specimen by the underside of the thorax (as described by Bill Garthe) and insert the pin into the top of the thorax. Falcate Orangetips
I saw several Falcate Orangetips (Anthocharis midea) today. It is usually the first butterfly of the spring brood in my area. Also saw a snout butterfly (Libytheana bachmanii) and a couple of UFOs. Time to dust off my net.
