Re: New paper - Graphium septentrionicolus
I just gotta ask- Adam, how accurately could you reproduce that phylogenic tree from memory? Don’t be humbly vague, tell the truth.

Re: Papilio glaucus (dark form/non-typical)
That is just a wonderful specimen, exhibiting extensive coloration all in one exhibit. I have specimens with extensive blue HW, with the blue up the FW, with red spots like that on the HW, and with yellow in the discal cell. And some with more than one of those characteristics. But none combine all ...

Re: bigfoot in Oregon?
AFAIK, there haven't even been claims to have found Bigfoot (or Yeti, or Yowie, or Orang Pentang) shelters. That's clearly human. Note that it's no good in the cold; better to build a platform off the ground and be covered by snow than to hide from snow and sleep on the ground. I'm not quick to dism...

Re: CITES in-depth study
TRADE IN DEAD CITES BUGS ONCE IMPORTED There's been a lot of banter (much incorrect) about the legality of selling and buying of CITES specimens within a country. In summary (according to US law) think of it this way: if the bug was captured or imported illegally, then it's still illegal. CITES itse...

Re: More USA Phanaeus
Yes, PLEASE put proper data labels on the specimens! I've had to deal with collections (including at major institutions) that had old labels referencing notebooks, and it's frightening. I print labels on my laser printer using the XLS files provided by the old forum. And acid-free paper you can buy ...

Re: Recognized publication outlets?
I’m often reading the forum on my phone and very much appreciate the larger font! Of course I can resize my screen and move it around to read, but the large font is both easier to read and stays within the boundary of the frame. Aging eyes, you know. Now looking for recommendations on knees. I appre...

Re: Recognized publication outlets?
Well, I would NOT want the scientific world to accept a newly designated ssp that was published on Farsebook. Nor on iNaturalist, based on the level of error I see. I was unaware of Taxonomic Report (though probably have a paper I pulled off it) and Sugupa as well. These are, apparently, specialized...

Re: Recognized publication outlets?
Thanks Adam.
I've found dozens, maybe hundreds, of online publications that have included nomenclatural acts. I have to assume they conform to the 2012 Amendment to the ICZN Code (Zootaxa 3450: 1–7), and presume that the website would state such. I'll have to go look.

Recognized publication outlets?
Quick version: which publications are recognized by the pro entomology community for published papers? Long version: In the olden days, LepSoc and Tropical Lep were the standard go-to publications for releasing papers on new species. These of course are not restricted to US publications; I know Euro...

California court confirms bumblebee is a fish
At issue, to environmentalists, is protecting a bumblebee.
But California court said since California legislature said invertabrates are fish, then a bumblebee must be a fish.

Re: Collecting El Salvador
IMHO all significant field work should be published. Even a general survey of what was captured adds significant insights. The work I’m doing now required a permit, and part of the deliverable is a publication of findings. Local help in a foreign country isn’t just useful, it’s a must for avoiding a...

The scammers have to be deleted faster
The scammers are still getting through. One slip of the finger or mouse and an accidental Hit on a link and good chance there’s a virus. A scammer that targets us could make a thread that looks good but is dangerous.
