Re: Strange burrows
Millipedes? I recently brought home a couple of millipedes from the forest (my daughter seems interested in them) and was surprised to find they had dug burrows all through the terrarium.

My understanding is that with these Bluets you need a clear look at the claspers to hope for a specific ID.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware, it's unique among African leps.

Re: Euphaedra
Definitely a difficult group. J Hecq says that E rattrayi is very common in Kivu and Uganda (Lambillionea . Vol 91. No 3- September 1991), and also mentions a subspecies coeruleomaculata. I think your photos help confirm that my first specimen is not E. rattrayi . Among other differences, my specim...

Re: Euphaedra
Tom, YOU are the expert, LOL. You keep digging up these odd and obscure Euphaedra from new locations, and opening cans of worms. Do you have access to a freezer? Reason I ask, if so you could pull a couple legs of each specimen and freeze them for later genetic analysis. Hey now! If I'm what amount...

Re: Maintenance on extendable net handles
Thanks for the update John. I couldn't see a way to take it apart and thought I was missing something. Thanks for confirming. Please give an update on how "washing it out" goes. I'm wondering about drilling holes through the loose sections and using a sort of pin or bolt to hold them in pl...

Maintenance on extendable net handles
I have 2 net handles which extend to about ~5m which I bought through Bioquip. The max. length and ability to rapidly shorten/extend is a must in the forests out here. These net handles have served me well for over half a decade, but now the locking mechanisms in some sections are more likely to sli...

Re: Euphaedra
The closest I could think of is rattrayi, but this would be well out of range, and I believe rattrayi is a darker species as well.

This one has me stumped. Re: Idea for rarities collectors??
I personally think the most proactive thing that any collector can do is ONLY collect what you can prepare in a timely manner. And by this, I mean what you CAN PREPARE within two or three days time (after capture). Clearly you aren't collecting in the tropics! :) I've learned that, around here, for...
