Three (hybrid) P. zelicaon x P. polxenes coloro (females)

The crossing of these 2 species produces some very
nice (hybrid) examples. Had another opportunity to
nab 3 more females. Can't seem to resist them....

Papilio glaucus (natural occurring genetic anomalies)

Odd specimens like these can sometimes be encountered in field. They are (one-of-a-kinds) and are revered and coveted by collectors for being "wild captured" examples. Their genetic anomalies show on their wings as blotches or excessive melanism. They are DIFFRENT from gynandromorphs which...

Papilio glaucus (Spring generation / transitionals)

The Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) is quite a variable butterfly species with 2 color forms of the (female), a recognised subspecies (maynardi), a seldom encountered (smoky/transitional) form, rare occurring examples which feature genetic anomalies on the wings, and lastly incredible gynandromo...

Unusual and/or unique Scarabeidae

In all fairness to our Scarabaeidae enthusiasts I thought that a thread about some of the more interesting looking species was in order. To start off this topic I'll begin with a unique species that a friend of mine has in his collection. Here is Paraheterosternus ludeckei and so far it is (the only...

Re: It comes from Chiang Mai Thailand !

Wow, how lucky you are Dave to have this subspecies of lidderdalii ! ! πŸ˜²πŸŽ‰πŸ˜Ž

That one now has "mythical" status amongst those who know anything of its former existence.

Incredible timing on your part.... πŸ‘

Impeccable specimen ! ☺️

Re: Rothschildia

Here is another species of mine.
The I.D. on it says Rothschildia hesperus.

I like this one for the pink color at the apex of'the forewings
as well as for the bi-dimentional windows; triangular in the
forewings and circular in the hindwings !

Re: Agrias butterflies

Since this thread has gone silent for a bit I'll resurrect it with a new addition/acquisition of mine. This honey was 3 months in waiting and each and every one I "land" is a triumph to me. My holdings are small but, they are just so incredibly marvelous ! I've never had a species with yel...

Papilio maacki (Hunon Island)

Here's a variable species of "legend" from Japan. Wow, those folks sure have been blessed with a plethora of simply gorgeous swallowtail species over there. Spring generations are known to be smaller yet, even bolder colored. This large attractive summer generation male hails specifically ...

Graphium hicetaon (Guadalcanal, S. Is.)

Here is another cool looking and powerfully built
papilio (Graphium) species. Looks like it would be
hard to see amongst the foliage of its native land.
Probably, tough to capture as well because it seems
packed with muscles....

Re: It comes from Chiang Mai Thailand !

Thank you Adam very much ! So, to be clear this name should then be Meandrusa lachinus aribbas (based on the locality data) ? I've had this quite a few years. The label you see is what I received it with. I took its I.D. for what it was.... Found it in a collection being parted-out for sale and was ...

It comes from Chiang Mai Thailand !

Here is a surprise for Adam. A little something I've had which
is (unique) to me for its coloration. The data is there and so
are all the legs !

Only, slightly "bumped" otherwise....

Do you see many of these Adam ? Is it common fodder ?

Another of the great ones is this primeval-looking monster of the Amazon region. Its distribution is rather wide with its presence in Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Males run the gamut of size from as little as 8 or 9 cm on up to the record of 17.7 c...
