Re: Anthocharis cardamines
Got these on the board not too long ago. 3 old pairs from Northern Europe. I’ve also got several Anthocharis bambusarum from Nanjing China I am waiting on mounting. Those specimens are absolutely gorgeous with the forewing being all orange and the hind wing being much more defined than the typical ...

Re: What’s on your board??
Nice idea for a thread. Some photos of my last winters setting/spreading. A pair of Hebomoia glaucippe formosana from Taiwan & a male Stichophthalma fruhstorferi from Viet-Nam. I took pictures of them only partially set/spread

Re: Anthocharis cardamines
I don't consider that spring has begun until I see my first orange tip of the year. However, this year, for the first time ever, I've not seen a single one in south-east England! Other people have also told me that they're massively down in numbers this year, maybe the very hot summer last year cau...

Re: Sleepy Orange (Abaeis nicippe)
I encountered this species in New Mexico back in 2016 Trehopr. From memory it wasn't that common there & I only saw a couple of individuals. A very colourful little butterfly.

Re: Anthocharis cardamines
Interesting that you don't have any Anthocharis in your part of IllinoisTrehopr. Here in the U.K. A cardamines is widespread & fairly common. Both it's food plants grow in abundance in my part of North Wales & the butterfly itself is often abundant between mid April & mid May here still....

Anthocharis cardamines
Three self collected males from this year. First specimen has slight scale defect in left forewing. Second & third pictures are upperside & underside of typical male & an abb minor male which also has unusually dark underside. I also collected a pair of this species from Scotland. The fi...

Re: Melanargia galathea
VERY nice find's Dave. I've always liked this species. I have 3 or 4 of the typical ones but, no aberrations. This is the first abberation I can remember seeing offered Trehopr. I am currently rearing caterpillars of this species. It is a real favourite of mine. Sadly there are none in my locality....

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
Alas, my final specimen of (4) from DaveUK is now posted below. A diffrent and (singular) location. It is likely the same species as my above specimen from HUE yet, it has a wide bluish-purple sheen along the outer margins of the hindwings. This is not present at all in the specimen from Hue. Both ...

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
I visited Da Nang in 2008 Trehopr. From there I went inland to Hoi An & some mountains nearby. I was very impressed with the variety of butterflies I saw in that part of the world. Sadly I did not see any Stichophthalma & have yet to see any species of this genus on the wing. Poignant that y...

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
Having recently completed my "setting work" on my papered Stichopthalma acquisitions I was for a lack of drawers to place them in. So, until such time as I am able to buy new drawers I have housed my specimens in 3 snap-tight (locking lid) tupperware containers. Here is how each container...

Mullein moth(Cucullia verbasci)
For a few years now the brightly coloured caterpillars of this species have attacked the Buddleia davidii shrubs in my garden. They are easily seen during the daytime as they feed & bask on the leaves protected no doubt by their warning colouration. I collected some last year, fed them on Buddle...

A pair from Ethiopia along with preserved pupae & parasitic flies that attack the larvae of this species.
These specimens were all photographed for the old forum but have since come into my possession.
Believe this to be a rare or rarely collected species.

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
Thank you kindly Dave. Indeed, my purchase has turned out to be a real bargain after the finding of this (male) S. godfreyi. I love them all and now I think I have a decent showing of them. I feel I owe you a depth of gratitude Dave because of your passionate interest in these butterflies and (your...

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
A very pleasent surprise amongst my recent cache of papered Stichopthalma is this (male) of S. godfreyi. It comes from Thailand and was collected in May 2009. It was somehow mixed-in with all the other material from Vietnam. This species is probably the "grandest" of the genus with its va...

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
Yet more really beautiful specimens Trehopr. So glad that you have managed to procure a good series of these incredible butterflies now. As you say the variation from specimen to specimen is really astonishing. This seems to be particularly the case with specimens from Viet-Nam. That is also a reall...
