Re: Peru Saturnids
I don’t know the Automeris but the lower one appears to be Copaxa medea from Peru. Used to have a gorgeous pair but unfortunately sold them!

Re: Cerambycidae of "weird " appearance
It does exist, but it’s not the beetle in your photo. The species is Onychocerus albitarsis. Quite remarkable!

Re: Double Trouble - Real or Fake?
'Sharon' was a dealer in W Malaysia, not Thailand. I heard she was closed down by the Malaysian authorities. Adam. That’s unfortunate to hear Adam (unless ‘she’ deserved it of course!). I believe boghaunter1 meant the scorpion was from Thailand, not the seller. They always offered premium specimens...

Re: Unusual and/or unique Scarabeidae
livingplanet3 - you are very accurate in your description of the appearance of H. gloriosa! Many beetles have an opalescent appearance to them, but H. gloriosa somehow takes it to another level. The depth and "glow" is unique and almost unmatched, and must be see in person to be fully appr...

Re: Double Trouble - Real or Fake?
I would suspect it is real. Was it offered by “mybutterflybugs”? It looks like one of their offerings. If so, Sharon is a very honest seller in my experience. Also, numerous examples of living scorpions with two tails can be found with a little searching. They don’t all divide in exactly the same wa...

This is my largest Callipogon armillatus at 130mm. Specimens of this size are not easy to find with such clean and perfect elytra. It has also been fully degreased.

Re: Biggest Beetle
These may be a bit of a repetition, but here are a couple more Macrodontia cervicornis and another Titanus giganteus. The largest male I've been able to acquire (afford!) is this one at 162mm. MC IN.jpg And since this species is not commonly seen spread with its wings open, I'll add this one also. I...

I thought Batocera wallacei was longer/ larger than kibleri ?? I'm not sure which species of Batocera attains the greatest body size or has the longest antennae, but here are two of my Batoceras for comparison. I do not spread most Cerambycidae with their antennae in this position, but it's nice to...

Bizarre Beetle for sale online years ago... I.D? Weird Beetle dorsal.jpg Weird beetle ventral.jpg John K. I’m not 100% positive on the species but it looks like Pachycnema corepurporea - Rutelinae or Melolonthinae. Tribe Hopliini. Commonly known as monkey beetles. Would be a nice addition to the th...

Re: Cerambycidae of "weird " appearance
Not sure what the gray area is, but this is a photoshopped image. The head, pronotum and elytra appear to be natural and original, but the legs and antennae are photoshopped - hence the absolute perfection of symmetry. The right side, or the left side, has been mirrored. Very good job though!

I have not purchased from Dave in quite a few years, but my experience is much like “jellybean’s”. In the past I have dealt with Dave countless times, both at fairs and through the mail, and have never had the slightest problem. Quite the opposite actually. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate dea...

A few more aesacus, including a female with blue scaling (lower left). None of these have been exposed to UV light - natural or artificial.

Re: Method to display already pinned specimens upside down
I’ve honestly never had a problem carefully removing a pin from a specimen (without relaxing) and inserting it back into the same pin hole from the verso side, in cases where I want to “switch” the side of the specimen being displayed. One exception would of course be pins which were glued into the...

Re: Method to display already pinned specimens upside down
Remove the head of the pin. Find the appropriate sized hypodermic needle or tubing to create a “sleeve” over the existing insect pin and extended it’s length. This would be secure. A tiny amount of glue could ensure the needle does not slip off or spin on the pin. Perhaps something like this: https:...

Goliath Birdwing Butterfly Display (25 specimens)
This Goliath Birdwing display was created in 2010. Ornithoptera goliath is generally considered the second largest butterfly in the world, following very close behind Ornithoptera alexandrae , although some would say that the females are nearly equal. Most of these are older photos taken at the time...
