Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

1. Don't you get a day off to go afield? Day 9, in Bamokandi, which I'll write a post about next, was a planned "rest" day, but that rainy morning back in Manonga messed up our schedule and we were never really able to recover, so it functionally became a rest half-day as we needed to do ...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

Day 8 - July 12 th (Ezabisi - Disolo, Disolo to Bamokandi) ... Continued Again We eventually arrived back in Disolo around about mid-afternoon. While the others rested and lunch was being prepared, I needed to take down the 2 traps I'd set-up 2 days earlier. The first trap had served as restaurant ...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

Day 8 - July 12 th (Ezabisi - Disolo, Disolo to Bamokandi) ... Continued If it's not apparent, breakfast and farewells took a few hours longer than planned. If we wanted to get to Bamokandi before late in the day we'd need to quick march back to Disolo. Painfully, collecting butterflies on the way ...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

Day 8 - July 12 th (Ezabisi - Disolo, Disolo to Bamokandi) The plan for the day was to complete the 11km hike back to Disolo, have lunch, get back on the road, cross the Uele, arrive at Bamokandi and spend the remainder of the afternoon resting. But, before we could go, we had to have breakfast and...

Thanks for sharing your amazing photos and info!
I'm curious, what do you do with the adult specimens?

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

Porters? Bath? Man you’re living the life of luxury! Lemme guess, you have more than two undershorts too. If you can afford to, I recommend packing at least 3 pairs of undershorts. :) That way you have a back-up pair for when you inevitably drop a fresh pair in the mud while trying to dress balance...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

DAY 7 - July 11 th (Hike to Ezabisi) After a large breakfast we headed off for Ezabisi, a small Kango village on the bank of the Uele River. Unlike the Zande (the majority tribe) or Barambo, who are primarily agriculturalists and hunters, the Kango are unique in making their livelihoods primarily f...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

Great photos & story! Too bad about the boots! How far to the nearest Walmart? ha ha ha ha ha. With the mud and clay there, the only boot I'd wear is the Altama jungle boot. But if you like the Salewa you might also look at the La Sportiva (light!) and the Solomon GTX. "Look" meaning ...

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

DAY 6 - July 10 th (Bandueli - Disolo) We woke early with the intention of leaving early to arrive in Disolo on time for the Sunday church service. (Un)fortunately (I'm not sure which), the ladies insisted on feeding us before we could leave and it's hard to say no to such hospitality! First came t...

At this point, this thread ought to be re-titled to something more generic.

wollastoni wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:18 pm Good idea, Thomas
I have coded it, you can now embed videos : just copy/paste the url of the video in your post and the video will be embeded. You don't even need to use the [media] tags.
Amazing! Does this work for sound clips too?

Re: Embedding Youtube videos

Pasting URLs is fine, but it sends people off site and there's no preview (meaning the link could be to anything on youtube). I want to embed the video. As far as I can tell, Olivier needs to enable the BBcode for video embedding to work.

bobw wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 10:27 am I won't try to post my Colias holdings here as I have 150 drawers with about 12,000 specimens representing all but about 4 species. However, if anyone has any specific requests, I'm happy to take some photos.
I'm curious about what 4 species you might be missing!

Text editing options

One last one: Would it be possible to improve the text editing options?
I'm surprised there's no ability to strikethrough (which is useful when editing old posts to show what was corrected).
Also, the ability to superscript is lacking.

Reactions

I'm a bit disappointed there's no specific "Thank you!" reaction available. The thumbs up is close, I guess, but it would be nice if a "Thank you" reaction was available.

Embedding Youtube videos

Can we get the ability to embed youtube videos into posts? It's a shame we have to send people off site to view videos.

The same can be said for sound clips. Can there be a way to insert sound clips like we do images?

Re: To Bima & Back Again: A Journey through the Bush of Bas-Uele

DAY 5 - July 9th (Manonga to Bandueli) It poured all night and through most of the morning. This was problematic. As far as I can tell, the savanna is characterized by a thin layer of clay-rich soil, sitting on top of a sheet of rough volcanic rock. It's not permeable and water tends to flow over i...

DAY 4 – July 8th (Banda to Manonga) I unwisely packed away both my phone and my camera and so have little photographic documentation of this day’s travel. Banda to Manonga is 86km along the main east-west road cutting across the province, north of the Uele River. We left Banda around 10:30 and made...

DAY 2 & 3 – July 6th/7th (Banda) These two days were spent in administrative meetings and leading a training seminar. I managed to find an hour or so to walk around with the net, but the environment around the mission hill is largely anthropogenic and I didn’t find much that was interesting. I ...
