Re: Great Purple (Blue) Hairstreak (Atlides halesus halesus)
These are usually found individually or in small numbers, but I found at least 50 of them on a flowering plant (sorry, don't remember the species) in extreme south TX. I managed to snag about 8 of them. I have also seen them on mistletoe near Austin, TX.

Re: Parrhasius m-album
One of my absolute favorites! The blue is more brilliant than the Great Purple. i have managed to capture only a couple of these, and they are not in pristine condition as are these.

Re: Chrysina beetles in Panama and Costa Rica
Ron Cave should be able to provide a wealth of information on collecting Chrysina. He has collected them in Honduras and other nearby countries. National Geographic magazine featured an article about his Honduras trip. Not sure which issue. here is a link with his contact info, but I don't know if i...

Daphnis nerii
Since there are no posts on this topic, I'll start it off with a painting of Daphnis nerii, the Oleander Hawkmoth. While I was working on the painting it started to rain, so I added the raindrops.

I'm trying to upload a picture from my computer to use as an avatar. It is 558 KB. The instructions say to click on Attachments below the message box. I see no such link. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Phoebis philea
About 15 years ago I was lucky enough to stumble across a colony of these near downtown Houston, TX. There was a large hedge of Senna in bloom. The males would patrol the top of the hedge in search of females, which often stopped to nectar on the flowers. After awhile I was able to predict the fligh...

Re: Any hotspots near San Antonio in June?
If you're looking for butterflies anywhere in Texas, the best resource is "Finding Butterflies in Texas" by Roland Wauer. It has detailed maps on where to look, plus species lists for each region. It's out of print, but I saw a few copies available on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1854012...
