Re: Does anyone have a bigger one? I mean an agrippina

Very nice Dave ! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ The larger of the two is very impressive. I've not yet been able to land a good example. Over here, if people have them they may only have 1or 2 so, they generally won't part with them. I'm bound to get a good one but, I'm certain I'll have to pay substantially more now that the ...

Re: Does anyone have a bigger one? I mean an agrippina

Nice looking example. Looking more closely at your photograph it looks to be about 245mm. Your right forewing doesn't exactly line up underneath the zero (0). This is a phenomenal species of moth which is probably most notable for its sheer wing expanse. Males typically fall (within the size range) ...

Very nice Brahmaea chris from an unusual locality. πŸ‘€ Those are some mighty nice (self-collected) examples Paul ! You always seem to find such nice examples in your field work. πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ Did you happen to pick up any of the nice day flying moths present there in Thailand and Laos ? If you did could you show...

That is an amazing species Kan ! Your photography is equally amazing with so much definition and clarity. The depth of the blue and red colorations along with the variable golden green / orange sheen (color) range puts this species right up there with the Chrysina in brilliance. Many thanks for the ...

Re: Specimen Macro Photography

WOW, that's an astonishing number of species/ subspecies encountered by you after nearly a decade. Appreciate your time in answering these questions of idle curiosity. My (visits) to countries abroad to collect have been limited to 2 weeks (at the most) in any given place. Naturally, that only gives...

Re: Specimen Macro Photography

I like the new modifications Cabintom ! Contrast is excellent. As silly as this sounds; are you able to collect butterflies much of the year or are there a few specific months when butterfly diversity is it a high point and those given months are the best times ? How many species have you thus far e...

Re: Movie magic !

All you have to do is go on to YouTube and look up Dr Doolittle 1967 (end scene). That is the sequence with the giant lunar moth. Dr Doolittle says in the film that it has a 60 ft wingspan ! Using a staff he roughly carves out its image in the sand of an island shoreline --- where it will land to pi...

Movie magic !

In 1967 Twentieth Century Fox studios released the movie "Dr. Dolittle" starring Rex Harrison. It was a fun and engrossing film to watch as their were plenty of animal cameos and lots of lovely scene shots. However, being a 7 yrs.old kid with (already) a glowing interest in insects it stru...

Re: Charaxes

Ha, I also happen to know where you got that C. mars madensis (Buru) from. Had that in my hands too ! It lost out to a "fine" Stichopthalma camadeva which was present. I have a feeling Chris that you are the one who snapped-up that C.lydiae which I was told was arriving soon. Very (uber) n...

I think that "electric" green male is an aberration.
I've never seen one quite like that anywhere this

Always marvelous whoever's collection its found in. I've had a "fine" (male) of the species for some time but, have missed out on achieving the female. O'h man, I know where that first male comes from as well as that female. Had both of them in my hands !! Really admired the male for its &...

Re: South India small tussore (Antheraea paphia)

Any chance that you could measure the wing expanse
(tip - tip) in mm.
Since my larger (brown) A. mylitta specimen measured
in at 161mm. I'd like to know how they compare.

Hey Chris, wonderful display of Anthrea ! I've never seen the (female) of A. godmani or the (male) of A. youngi: both are fantastic finds. That A.youngi (female) is a tremedous specimen and dwarfs A. mylitta --WOW ! I remember a former member (panzerman) posting the only other photograph I've ever s...

Re: Where can I go?

Let me start by saying that personally I am "out of the loop" these days on where to go anymore for exotic type collecting. A few SELECT places may still have no issues with collecting insects for personal desire. However, getting anywhere abroad is expensive with air flights, ground trans...

Anyone can own beaters or specimens half as good
but, getting your hands on specimens like that (these days) is expensive and unlikely to happen even if you wanted to try and catch your own.
Fantastic species...☺️
