New sponsor : Le Franc Curieux

InsectNet has a new sponsor : Le Franc Curieux , a French insect shop led by Nicolas Cellard, that I met in an entomological auction last year. Le Franc Curieux French supplier of unmounted and mounted specimens. Colepotera, Lepidoptera and other orders. Specimens for collectors and creators. Extens...

Re: Where to buy: Bioquip folding net "National Park Special"

As long as entomological authorities remain "silent" on that topic, the future of our hobby is indeed at risk. Museum authorities of the world should launch a "give kids a net" campaign. + they need to defend the insect trade as Wang, Pierce, Lohman & al did in July 2023 : &q...

Re: IMPORTANT NEWS : Papilio lampsacus is not extinct !

No because there are still some good forests on some mountains.
This said, that's why it is important to have the locality known.

IMPORTANT NEWS : Papilio lampsacus is not extinct !

There was much debate in our community about the status of Papilio lampsacus , which had not been seen and/or caught for many years on Java. Some of its localities have been totally destroyed by urbanisation and logging. Many thought that this once common species had disappeared. Some thought that t...

Re: Bad Trading Report - Javier Castillo Garcia

Ebay's fees have grown so much that many sellers are going to Etsy. Etsy has a complaint protocol, any problems should go through Etsy. Beyond that, Etsy is usually paid by credit card, so one can dispute the charges. When a new member shows up here just to complain I have a bit of suspicion. And, ...

Re: Thai Sunray Canna

Lantana is indeed very attractive to butterflies in Asia and New Guinea, that's why I planted some in my French garden.

But in my garden, it seems to have no effect at all on the butterflies I have in the area (Vanessa atalanta, Aglais io, Pieris rapae...).

Re: Thai Sunray Canna

I have a small lantana which doesn't attract any butterflies BTW... maybe Breton butterflies doesn't like it.

To me, it smells very good, a bit like citrus indeed.

I saw that announcement too.
With this kind of month pay, they should better hire locals... even if the mission itself can be interesting.

Re: French Guyana suggestions

My recommendations : Kaw Mountain : - Patawa Camp : owned by 2 entomologists. Very good tracks within the forest nearby. Maybe good for you to know them so that they can introduce you people who could help for your Butterfly facility project. - Amazon Nature Lodge : the lodge is better, but no entom...

Re: (?Smaller) Moths in French Guiana

Hello A good start would be going to Camp Pattawa lodge (in the Kaw Mountain, 2 hours from Cayenne). Camp Pattawa is held by Odette Morvan and Jean-Aimé Cerda, 2 French entomologists who have studied the French Guiana heterocera actively. They host entomologists every months. So it is a good place t...

Re: Papuan Satyridae genitalia

For the moment, they are still on the spreading board and I don't see much differences, but this abdomen without any clasper.
Satyridae often have nearly no sexual dimorphism so it is not so easy.
I guess a DNA test or a genitalia preparation will be needed to be 100% sure.

Yes, we have a lot of error 500 and error 508...
It can work if you refresh the pages.

Our team is on it, but the software producer (Ilance) seems to have disappeared... so not easy...
