SE Arizona 2022
I had the good fortune to be able to go insect collecting again in SE Arizona the last week of July. I had an even better fortune to be able to go collecting with 2 great guys that share my passion for collecting. Being able to have a couple of companions who new the area much better than I made me ...

The "Hackberry Emperor" is wrong as well. It is staggering how bad that poster is.

Re: bucket light trap
These are all great ideas. Thank you everyone. I especially like the idea of placing small pans of soapy water around the outside of the trap to capture beetles.

bucket light trap
I bought a bucket light trap from Bioquip before they closed shop. I have used it a couple of times in the back yard as a live catch trap. I would like to set it up as a kill trap when I bring it to Arizona in a couple of weeks. I have tried filling a small plastic jar with ethyl acetate, drilling a...

Re: Catocala 2022
I am a little more hopeful now that we received some good rainfall this past week. The last couple of days has yielded the following: C. ilia form normanii C. blandula C. parta C. insolabilis Last year produced the most C. coccinata I have ever seen, and yes they are one of the earliest species. I d...

Catocala 2022
Catocala season finally started for me yesterday. Probably the latest start to the season I can remember. However, it makes sense since spring was about 2 weeks late this year in Southern Wisconsin. I had 1 C. ilia in the bait trap yesterday. This morning I had 4 and they were all different forms in...

Re: Dysschema howardi
Arctiinae is also one of my favorite families of moths. I have several D. howardi I collected in Arizona, but I do not have a female.
The females are spectacular. Hopefully I can collect one some day.

Hello everyone, My former member name was bugboys3, a moniker that my wife gave to me and my 2 boys when they were much younger. She would call us her 3 bug boys when we would go out collecting for their 4H collections. I have been an Insectnet member since the days Clark was running the site. I am ...
