Re: Can anyone tell the sex of this D. vanillae?
........... Judging by everyone's replies, the male D.v. is smaller and brighter, than a female. This one was comparatively small and exceptionally bright (I have not changed the color by Photoshop). Here is the print by Maria-Sybilla Merian, from her "Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium&quo...

Giant swallowtail
Another trivial object. Sorry for the depth of field problem,
it was taken back in 2010. Then it was a P. cresphontes,
it is a Heraclides rumiko since 2014.

Re: Polymorphism of P. zelicaon pupae
Several publications suggest that the coloration of pupae in Papilionidae is controlled by environmental factors. See, for example: Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Pupal Protective Color Switch in Papilio polytes Butterflies. Shinichi Yoda, Emi Otaguro, Mayumi Nobuta and Haruhiko Fujiwara. Frontiers...

Re: Paper for insect labels
Thank you both. Fortunately, I've just found my old paper stock from BioQuip. The watermarks are unreadable. Here is the product description from the BQ, see the attachment, just in case someone is interested in this technical issue. I remember how the labels on the Ornithopterae in my grandad's col...

Paper for insect labels
Can anyone tell me what kind of paper should I order and where?
In the past, I used an "acid-free, heavy stock" (or something like that)
paper from the Bioquip.
Thanks in advance!

A fight of larvae?
I've never seen this before: the Monarch larvae are fighting
each other for a good pupating spot (at least, it looks like they do).

Re: Urgent help with chrysalids
Thanks to everyone, who replied.
As I said, I used Elmer's glue. So far the chrysalides look fine.
I'll update you on the results.

The problem was solved with Elmer's glue.
I hope, it is not toxic for chrysalids.

Urgent help with chrysalids
I have a few Nymphalidae chrysalids, detached from the substrate.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the chrysalis, normally hung upside-down,
to the mesh on the top of the eclosion cage?
When I was a kid, I did this with some glue,
just can not remember which one.
Please help!
