This should be a form of the highly variable Epicopeia polydora which is indeed a Müllerian mimic with many Byasa species.

When a new member shows up here just to complain I have a bit of suspicion. And, note, there's not details. Harry is not a new member, I have known him for many years. He rarely posted on the old Insectnet, just reads avidly. I was asked by Harry personally by e-mail about the issue a few days ago ...

I recommend putting 'mm' at the top of the column or in the caption rather than repeating it in each cell. Perhaps that's what you were planning anyway.

Re: Forewing length vs. wingspan

That's why the average and number of samples helps. If most are in the middle of the range the average will also be approximately in the middle too, assuming a reasonable number of samples. If the average is skewed to one side and the 'n' value is low, then it is obvious that an outlier has affected...

Re: Forewing length vs. wingspan

So what is the value of FCL? Yes, it can be consistently measured. But it doesn't really tell us about the actual size of the specimen Forewing length can be very useful when comparing between different taxa. There may also be differences between generations of the same taxon. It is a good idea to ...

Perhaps you have the wrong variety/species, some do not attract butterflies, or maybe local conditions are not favourable to nectar production.

Re: How the heck to cite parts of a table?

I agree with Jshuey in principle, but if the table also includes previously unpublished data you can add the following at the end of the table legend: Table includes data adapted from that provided in Smith 1999 and and Jones 2000. Of course you should also cite the publications in the References se...

The type locality of Papilio maackii han (Yoshino, 1997) is 'Mt. Wuyishan, Fujiang prov., China', and it is considered to be the senior synonym of shimogorii Fujioka, 1997 (type locality: 'Mt. Omeishan, Sichuan, China'), i.e. han is the valid subspecies name for P. maackii occurring at least between...

Althouh they claimed them as Papilio lowii from Marinduque. These are farm bred accidental hybrids. True P. memnon lowii only occurs on Palawan, but many years ago the farms in the other Philippines islands obtained breeding stock of lowii from Palawan to breed, at the same time as what were origin...

Re: Papilio memnon ssp. ♀ from Indonesia

It is very difficult to be certain which subspecies this female belongs to without locality (island is enough) data since the obvious differences are in the males. Females of most subspecies are rather variable whereas males are not. This specimen could be ssp. anceus from Sumatra or ssp. memnon may...

Re: "Spring Tigers" in northern Illinois

I don't think it is a good idea to use the yet to be published scientific name for what I assume has previously been called 'MST' here. Once it has been validly published there will be no issue about using it, but if the name appears even on a forum like Insectnet it will spread and that could becom...

Re: Morpho cypris female form cyanites

It would be a good idea to add a label to the specimen's pin stating that the abdomen came from a yellow form female, and include locality data for that female. Maybe one day in future a researcher will use this specimen for their studies, and the information would be important.
