Bob, Adam, do you know where the Saruman Museum collection now is ?
I would very much like to see pictures of this P. sarumani specimen.

Re: Looking for 2 papers about Agrias
According to funet.fi, the Prepona sarumani / Agrias sarumani description may be in The Illustrated Encyclopedia of The Buterfly (PAUL SMART) 1976.
If one of you can have a look, I don't find anything in the French version I have but it may not be as complete as the original version.

Looking for 2 papers about Agrias
Hello As I haven't found them online, I hope that the great InsectNet community will be helpful. I am looking for these 2 papers for my reasearch on Agrias taxonomy. - Prepona sarumani or Agrias sarumani description. Paul Smart 1976 (I am not sure which genus he used) - Agrias amydon philatelica des...

Books : Lepidopteres de Guyane / Butterflies of French Guiana
The French Lepidopterist Association has just listed in the InsectNet Marketplace their very interesting books about French Guiana butterflies and moths . There are 7 tomes on various families (Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, Castniidae, Saturniidae...). The books are in French but there are a lot of very ...

Re: "One in five butterfly species sold online across borders" on eBay
I like the conclusion but I am pretty sure the use of this publication will be much more different : ban of international insect trade... collectors are killers... and so on. Especially with that headline.... And of course they forgot to say that one single bat eats 6,000 insects per night. So one b...

Re: Polyamorous Polyphemus?
you and your friend are true moth whisperers! It's fascinating how those male Antheraea polyphemus moths got all worked up, thinking they hit the jackpot with those pheromoning ladies inside. Talk about moth madness! But hey, persistence pays off, and those Hyalophora euryalus studs showed up right...

I love Larson cartoons. Always brilliant ! And his entomological cartoons are always very accurate.
Anyone knows if he is an entomologist, or if his father was ?
How come he knows so well our secret world ?

Reminds me some good time with our late friend Danny Burk photographing them in Indiana.
It was a new species to me as it was my first trip to the US.

Re: Strange pupae development
Thank you both for reactions. Larvae were wild collected. Now I think Adam can be right with some form of desiccation. I have several pupae affected exactly same way and what is strange - it is same side of pupaes. As I am laying all pupae on one side :) to have clear look on one side of wing part ...

If you buy through his ebay listing, there will be no issue : https://www.ebay.com/usr/loretosales I made several orders each year on his listings. They have full export permits. (that's why it takes them few weeks to send the parcel because they need to wait for the permit for each order). If in di...

Interesting, let's hope the butterfly will emerge !
Could be a bi-form result with one aberrant half... or it could be a totally normal imago.
Are these specimen bred from wild caterpillars, or from 2nd, 3rd generations of breeding ?

Re: Papilio demoleus in Cyprus
Therein lies the innate problem of attempting to eliminate a species by parasitoid biocontrol. Elimination can never actually be achieved, only reduction of the pest population numbers. As the pests become rarer the numbers of the biocontrol parasitoids also go down, and they form a cyclical synchr...

Re: Papilio demoleus in Cyprus
Not really, they crossed from Turkey, Lebanon or Syria in 2021. P. demoleus has gradually been moving westwards from Iran in the past years. Previous papers have discussed the origin of the species in Cyprus. Thanks, the distribution map I looked at wasn't up-to-date then. It confirms a fast expans...

Re: Papilio demoleus in Cyprus
A great addition to the European fauna ! I have always wondered why P. demoleus (or demodocus ) hasn't conquered the Mediterannean shores. I guess they arrived in Cyprus through Citrus tree importation from Asia. I doubt it would be a threat for the Citrus industry today, as they already use outrage...
