Re: old specimen Armandia lidderdaleii
Now you have to pay for everything that comes from outside the EU, even if it comes as gift that It supposes that doesn't have a commercial value. Ask your seller to put a €10 value. The Vat will be 2 euros and most of the time they don't bother claiming it. If no value is entered (gift), then they...

Re: old specimen Armandia lidderdaleii
Yeap another achievement of Brexit... same here when I buy from a UK seller... + it is a big issue for UK Ornitho collectors now. For example, they can't bid on French Auction Ornithoptera anymore as they can't import them to the UK. (the CIC permit from the French authorities is valid within the EU...

Re: The silence....
For those who ignore it, Leroy has been banned for scamming other Insectnet members and refusing to refund them for many months. We gave him decades of opportunities to act correctly. I agree it is not a sensible suggestion to have him back here. This said, we miss his entomological posts and knowle...

Re: Rare Delias butterflies
I appreciate the brevity in the description and contrast. Especially so because I'm trying to make sense of one paper which has a description of a couple species we know well, but the the description goes on for pages with run-on sentences. Yours is concise and legible. Writing a paper in a foreign...

Re: The silence....
I meant before the software change indeed. You can't compare with a period when facebook wasn't as developed as today in entomology. We have lost some good members due to "lack of moderation" in the past, not the contrary. Dragging in pictures is already available in the "Full editor&...

Re: The silence....
Well, the new forum is MUCH more active than the previous one. Thanks to easy photo attachment mainly.
I personnally post less on Insectnet right now because I have TONS of work for my company... but I am glad to read the various topics and to see the success of the new forum.

Re: Any forum members SELL in Marketplace?
It is a totally different audience indeed. The marketplace has more traffic than the forum and more than 1,100 registered members. It now represents 20% of Insectnet turnover, it is a big success. Some sellers are switching a lot of their offers from eBay to Insectnet like beetlesdundee . (because I...

I heard that you can produce some Arctia caja forms by feeding them only with dandelion flowers.

Re: this is not facebook
Facebook is a great tool for entomology, many of us are using it including me. Some Insectnet members have found us thanks to facebook. This said, facebook is NOT a safe place to purchase insects , I can list more than 100 scammers hunting there on the entomological community. If you are looking for...

Re: Rare Delias butterflies
A very rare pair from my collection now : Delias itamputi . This pair has been caught in Owgarra (Papua New Guinea) in 1911 by AS Meek. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48814837398_5a75df20dd_k.jpg AFAIK only one collector has collected some itamputi in the last 50 years, he found only few males....

Re: Greg Watson : be careful
While I can understand why some African scammers would try to scam us... seeing a knowledgeable entomologist scamming his fellow colleagues is really a disgrace. Many of my friends had issues with Greg Watson.

Re: Cinnabar larva
The first time I found this caterpillar in Brittany (NW France), where it is very common on the coast, I was 7 years old and thought I found some Danaus plexippus in France ! I was very proud of myself as plexippus caterpillars have never been found in France AFAIK.

Re: Impact of severe storms on butterfly populations
We don't have severe storms here in W. Europe vs what you have in N. America, but I am sure large wings butterfly species like Papilio glaucus must be severely hit by storms. As you said, they can't protect themselves. A question though : are they killed by the storm, or transported kilometers away ...

Indeed the Paypal "Friends & Family" option is to be used only with Friends, Family or sellers you know well.
Don't use it with unknown people who are advertising on a public classifieds board.
