Re: Incredible Lifelong Insect Collection
And here is a link to A young Asian guy called Dee the Bug Buff. He has many very entertaining videos on reptiles, bugs, birds... you name it! Not in English, but very nice, clear videos & he gives a very hands on approach (takes the bugs out of the containers & shows great closeups) to all ...

Re: Incredible Lifelong Insect Collection
An interesting, recent (2023), uncommonly seen, bug fair from Taiwan featuring mostly beetles (& a few leps.) The first half is a bit boring & features live beetles (some giants though...); last half (30 minutes total) is mostly beautifully mounted deadstock beetles & leps. What spectacu...

Re: Strange Pairing
Hi jwa121, I find a few strange pairings like these almost every season in my light traps. I have found 3 such pairings already (different spp.) this season alone. Your example is very interesting due to the huge difference in size between those 2 spp.. Also was this a male to female pairing? Many t...

A 1st time, very recent, discovery video about the Regal Fritillary. This man is one serious collector (I believe he works as a professional entomologist)... checkout his other videos... narration is not the greatest, but still interesting collecting & collection curation videos: https://www.you...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Earlier on in this M.V. thread I mentioned the existence of mercury vapor bulbs of 1,500 watts & even 2,000 watts. The huge 2,000 watt stadium bulb was seen only once or twice on ebay years ago & I have never seen one offered again. I just did some searching around on both Amazon.ca & Am...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Unfrigging believable! I just wrote that V.B. had lost interest in this silly back & forth & he just now writes "And to correct concerning MV lamps, they have never been banned anywhere or anytime. This person making these statements has a reading comprehension deficit." He is, of ...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
So What's up Chuck? Back Again? Not Surprising really...in fact it is, by now, perfectly predictable behaviour from you. Calling me immature with your brilliantly original "put on your big boy pants " comment is only throwing more gas on the fire. Escalating insults, back & forth, won'...

Chuck.... Please stop trolling my every comment... in other words back off, quit repeating yourself, & quit harassing me! Must you always have the last word? I repeat, "I am still feeling bullied & intimidated & am scared to place any comments on here because of the fear my statemen...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Please Vernon & Chuck, it is not necessary that you both work yourself into a wild frenzy (haha... what hyperbole!) and prove something I said was wrong. If you don't like something I said, ignore it and move on. But, it seems you are also unable to control your actions. Lets see........ V.B &am...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
I am writing this to innocently inform members exactly what I found available on ebay.ca (just a few hrs. ago) in the way of searching for "mercury vapor bulbs"(140 results). This has nothing to do with the self ballasted mess/confusion that has been beaten to death above. Sadly almost all...

Not surprised... a typical, condescending response by someone who considers himself beyond question. Do you have any respect, at all, for anybody else's recommendations, opinions or collecting experience? Your only intention in your response is to make me look like an uneducated fool... & that M...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
To the Greatest Insect Collector the World has ever Known, First of all Astrodyne does exist (in the U.S. & branches in China)... a quick Google search would tell you that. Just because YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD of a company or of a different wattage of bulb doesn't mean they don't exist! Nobody elec...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Hi Chuck, These bulbs use a standard Mogul base socket (available in any hardware store) which is considerably larger than the standard household socket (E-24/E-27). Mogul based sockets are also surrounded/made of ceramics (not plastic!) to withstand greater heat buildup of this high wattage bulb. M...

Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Hello Moth Collectors, Just ran across this Ebay ad that may be of interest, https://www.ebay.ca/itm/235039830645?shqty=4&isGTR=1#shId It's been a long time since I've seen an ad for this now rare type of bulb... rather pricey... I ordered 4 for $274.10 USD = $374.55 CAD!!!  The s...

Re: Unlocking the Hidden Art of Shingling
Me too!.... I absolutely cringe when I see beautiful/rare spp. with "drooping" hindwings (huge unsightly gap/V between fore & hindwings)... I call it "crucifixion" style when specimens are mounted in an over stretched/sprawled out "X" shape. Over the years I've read...

Posted previously in an older insectnet forum... same mounting method as others have described. A large Pepsis (105mm wingspan) personally collected in Feb.,1990 in Costa Rica:

Re: Glue boards/cards
Hi bugsy... Welcome to Insectnet, I think you are right about there not being any U.S. suppliers of glue boards...Using glue boards is more of a European preferred method of mounting beetles/small insects (big & small). Here in N. Am. any tiny insects that are too small for pins are usually poin...
