Perhaps, but species Latin names are the standard, I also see common names used in the classifieds a lot. I agree with Chuck, you can find anything
with that particular search engine that envelopes us all.

Re: Cecropia host plant
Kevin, where abouts do you live? Does cecropia occur in your area? I live on the Oregon coast, what I'd call central coast, in Lincoln City, it's about 90 miles west of Portland. No cecropia here, we have only 5 Saturniidae, at the most, A. polyphemus, Coloradia pandora, Saturnia mendicino, Hyaloph...

Re: Cecropia host plant
I'd give anything a try with cecropia, I've raised them on peach, they did mature, albeit a bit small, and only one made the classic "double bag"
cocoon, but it did produce an adult.

Re: bigfoot in Oregon?
A lumberjack I met at a campground near Bolan Lake in Josephine Co., Oregon in 1979 told me he had seen a bigfoot a few times in his life! :o Kuni As interesting as stories can get, I dismiss the existence of Bigfoot, with the amount of time my parents have spent in the woods cutting firewood, and ...

Bioquip's disposition was a popular thread a few months ago, I think if you do a search in the old forum archives, you might find some
suggestions about where to get supplies.

Re: A real decline of N.A. Hyalophora cecropia ?
I think species might wax and wane from varying things like the weather the previous year, or habitat changes. When I go out and use my UV light, it's always a crap shoot, it does matter if you know where you're going, and what you've found before, if you've been to that particular location. I find ...

Re: ova viability and animal age
Coincidentally, I have been thinking about the same or very similar question. I rear Saturniid moths and for some time now I have suspected that a female Saturniid's first-laid eggs tend to produce caterpillars that grow better or that are perhaps bigger or more robust than the caterpillars that co...

ova viability and animal age
Has anyone ever noticed if ova laid at the end of a female moth or butterfly's life have a lesser chance of being fertile than ova laid just after pairing, or simply a day or two before the animal expires? I'm not sure if I worded that correctly, but you get the idea- are eggs laid just before death...

bigfoot in Oregon?
]I just took an overnight trip to Jefferson county in Oregon, at Jack Creek Campground, nestled in the ponderosa trees. Near our campsite was a suspected bigfoot lean to, made from tree limbs and ponderosa bark, the structure was purpose built, by whom or what, I cannot say, but I was reminded of th...

I've noticed larva getting into arguments before, typically larva in the wild have a lot more space to work with than we give them.

super glue would probably work as well, I think it's used on human skin. You just need a non toxic glue that you can apply with precision.

I'll just take your explanation at face value, I don't use wikipedia because of their relentless requests for donations every time I would use
the site. Donate one or two times and you're marked for life.

Funny, we've all had to rejoin at least twice now and get a new joining date. And it took a lot longer than 10 seconds to r...

now I see the spam bots, and that's all I see, I see no intelligence or purpose, other than to insult our collective IQ. Am I supposed to click

Yes, the giant death mosquito- actually it's a crane fly, a harmless insect, which look a lot like mosquitos, and get a lot bigger as a matter of fact.

I'll try just about anything once, well maybe anything..
Ok, my first complaint is that I have to reload my avatar, I have to resize a photo to do that, I know because I've already tried, and as little effort as it may seem to resize a photo, I haven't done it it as of yet- so there you go. I am hopeful for the new forum, especially uploading pictures, wh...
