Male of this quite large species of Satyrid from Peru. The data is for Carpish October 1999. Which presumably refers to Carpish mountain in Huanuco, Peru.

Heliconius doris
Three specimens from Ecuador. All from the early 2000's. Part of the last consignment of specimens from an old British dealer friend before he retired. Pretty sure the top two are doris forms. Not completely convinced about the red one.

Re: Some of my recent "papered" Stichopthalma
My friend daveUK has noted that widespread variation within most jungle queen species makes it very difficult to pin down some species, seasonal forms, hybrids, and odd specimens that just don't seem to fit in anywhere. I still absolutely love these large, elegant butterflies of mesmerizing designs...

Agree this is a lovely & often overlooked species Trehopr. I got this pair from Ken Thorne in Canada a few years back. Also have a much older pair which is not in as good condition. From memory this newer pair are from Georgia.

Beautiful. Have always loved them. Coincidently they are apparently an alternative to Banana for rearing species of Caligo on. Anyway you can be proud of yourself for cultivating such amazing plants & flowers.

Recently acquired pair. Got the male about a month ago & the female arrived today. One of those jaw dropping moments when I saw inside the box. Have been waiting for a female for a very long time. Patience truly a virtue in this hobby.

Re: Colorado Hairstreak: A gem from the western U.S.
The Colorado Hairstreak (Hypaurotis crysalus) is quite a little "gem" amongst western lycaenidae of the U.S. It was designated the state insect of Colorado in 1996. It is the ONLY species in the genus and remains one of montane origins. Its range covers much of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizo...

Agree with livingplanet that this is a male Ghost Moth( H humuli). I live about 25 miles from Stoke On Trent & the moth occurs infrequently where I live.

All flora & fauna in Brazil have been protected for quite some time now meaning that no specimens can be legally exported from there .This species has always been a desirable & usually expensive one for collectors. I don't recall seeing a female before. Very nice acquisitions!!

Re: Charaxes hadrianus
Daveuk, I believe the locality of your charaxes hadrianus is wrong. Mbale is a town in eastern Uganda, near the Kenya border and hadrianus does not fly there. Most probably your specimen comes from Mbata, which is a famous collecting site in the south-west of the Central African Republic. Thank You...

Re: Idea for rarities collectors??
I think in theory that's a good idea Chuck. In practice here in the U.K. I doubt any museum would be at all comfortable with handing over boxes of papered specimens in their possession to members of the public/private collectors. I just don't see that happening. I don't think there would be enough t...
