Re: Morpho rhetenor
Morpho cypris is an all together separate species from this. This one is a subspecies name of rhetenor although I have also seen augustinae also used as a subspecies of rhetenor as well... Most people accept that augustinae Le Cerf, 1925 is the valid name for this subspecies of M. rhetenor, diana L...

Re: Morpho rhetenor
Dave, in your 3rd photo, I'm not sure where you got the name diana from, it's ssp. helena. Also, eusebes is now generally considered to be a synonym of r. rhetenor. Is M. diana considered to be closer to rhetenor, or to cypris? - https://archive.insectnet.com/thread/4698/morpho-diana-augustinae-rhe...

Not particularly unusual in form, but the cerambycids of the genus Sphingnotus (tribe Tmesisternini) must surely be among the most beautiful in the world -

Re: What is this biting me??
...We spotted the attached bug on our bedding this morning and yesterday saw one crawling in our dog's fur... This is most certainly a flea. I've had my share of experiences with them over the years, unfortunately! Yes, the bites can be incredibly itchy, and many people have an allergic reaction to...

Re: Agrias butterflies
A very recent and pleasing acquisition to my Agrias holdings is this Agrias beata (female) from Peru. It was collected in November of 2020. This is a species which I have always desired. As has been mentioned by others it remains a species with a lot of variable colors. Sometimes, more blue (here o...

...Whatever the taxonomic implications are they are really magnificent butterflies. The reddest of the red. Superb specimens; definitely one of my favorite Neotropical nymphalid genera! Indeed, the taxonomy has been adjusted numerous times. To my knowledge, the genus is currently considered to have...

Re: Lucanus cervus
Nice vintage specimens! Here in the US, we have its somewhat smaller relative, L. elaphus, which I've been able to breed with reasonable success on a couple of occasions in years past. I often found it difficult to get females to lay eggs, as they seem rather particular about the conditions for such...
