That is indeed a very "cool" find kevin. I have certainly never seen one. I have only encountered a couple of mantid flies in all my years of personal collecting. Funny, how some insects shown in common insect guides turn out to be so infrequently encountered in life...
Thank you so much Olivier for passing along this obituary piece on Bernard's lifelong passion for butterflies and adventure. He lived an AMAZING life of adventure and he seems to have thoroughly enjoyed his passion.
His personal collection is OUTSTANDING in the depth of whatever group he had an ...
Was Mr. Turlin recognized as one of the foremost authorities on the Charaxes genus ?
Was he an authority on any other African genera ?
Is there anyone here that can tell us a little bit more about this fascinating researcher and his travels ?
Thank you kevinkk for the heads up on that website.
Think I'm going to buy myself one of those hanging bait traps myself.
A whole lot more affordable than Ole' Leroy's "higher than hell" bait traps.
JVCalhoun that is an absolutely "staggering" personal library of entomological knowledge. I have only met one other collector with a library similar to yours in size. Amazing fortitude and effort indeed...
Thank you livingplanet3 for sharing all these wonderful images with the forum. Lepidoptera are pretty tough customers to get good images of. It takes a lot of patience and the right moment.
Are you donating these books somewhere?
Do you have a buyer for the whole lot?
If someone is interested in a few select titles would you
entertain sending them to an interested party if postage is paid ?
I very much enjoy reading your informative posts JVCalhoun.
They have insights, sound reasoning, and are tactfully presented.
Many thanks for joining the forum !
Another outstanding pair of hard to find delias !
This one is similar to that "Uber" superb Delias bagoe species.
Thank you so much nomad for kindly sharing all these gorgeous and hard to find species with us here !

Also, it is no small feat just getting to New Guinea New Ireland or New Britain in any attempt to find some of these elusive butterflies. There is the airfare cost, lodging, you ...
Hello Peter, Those two lovely black species you just posted are exceptional. I think these black species are especially cool along with D. mayerhoferi (?) which is tops in its black and red garb.
On general appearance I have to say that D. gilliardi just doesn't have the general appearance of a ...
Thank you John for posting the video. I have thus far only being able to watch about half of it because I think it runs around 45 minutes however, I still find it fascinating and I just enjoy watching it.
In some aspects it reminds me of some of the old national geographic films I would see on TV ...
Hello Peter, Very good indeed to see you here again ! Those are both very superb species which you have acquired. Nice to know that you are still at it and are successful at getting some of the real tough and/or little known species.
In the past, you showed us a portion of your delias collection ...
The book that I first saw this species in is called "The world of Moths" by authors Dickens & Storey (1974). Perhaps you have this book. It was produced on the heels of another book prior called "The world of Butterflies" also by the same authors ...
