Re: Tiger Swallowtails of NY: Finger Lakes, Part II
I looked at my spread supposed P. canadensis today and decided to upload photos here to contribute and also ask whether these are canadensis or something else: New York specimens upperside https://i.imgur.com/fGC3hIO.jpg New York specimens underside https://i.imgur.com/LEzGrTH.jpg other canadensis h...

Yes, that's correct. New members can only send PMs to moderators or reply to PMs sent to them from other members until they have posted a certain number of times. I cannot remember the number, but it is a mechanism to stop spammers from sending PMs to members. I believe that if you PM nitinra he wil...

Re: Tiger Swallowtails of NY: Finger Lakes, Part II
I must say Chuck is doing a great job trying to unravel what seems to be a very complex situation. This thread is really interesting, not only because of all the photos and data presented, but also the intrigue of getting to see all the issues as the data is accumulated. I am really looking forward ...

Re: Can someone please identify regular housequest?
This is a flying ant (reproductive male or female, not sure which), perhaps genus Oecophylla . Ants are not my speciality, but I have seen these before. I seem to remember that the species in S Thailand has a green abdomen, rather than orange here in Chiang Mai. This ant is often found in fruit tree...

Re: Limenitis chrysalides (continuation)
Igarashi & Fukuda (2000 - The Life Histories of Asian Butterflies vol. 2) illustrate pupae of several Asian Limenitis species, and those all have a similar 'hump'. Interestingly, illustrated pupae of Athyma species have a similar protruberance, but rather more ornate. Lebadea and Moduza species ...

Interesting. Presumably this 'hump' occurs in both sexes, if so it is not androconial.

Maybe they mated, laid eggs and now there are larvae 'everywhere'? It will be interesting to see what happens later in the year.

I would be very happy to have a super specimen like that, despite the tiny rub mark on the right forewing.

I haven't seen it for at least a week or more. Perhaps it occurs at certain times of day or in certain areas where the internet is slower?

Re: Cabbage Butterfly: simple beauty, resilient, & adaptive.
I can't help but notice the morphological similarity between the Cabbage White and Aphrissa statira, which is a member of the Sulphur family and has a more southerly range in the USA (native to S. Texas & S. Florida). Does anybody know how closely (or distantly) the 2 species are related? They ...

There seems to be a distinct lack of anyone vouching for the seller.

Re: Has anyone heard of the seller Roger An?
butterflygirl, I don't think kevink was in any way implying that you wouldn't have paid on receipt. I think he just meant that you can't expect a seller to want to send goods without payment up front. On the other hand, you definitely did the right thing posting on Insectnet to check whether anyone ...

I also cannot see any arthropods in the photos provided. They look like grains of sand or dirt, not living organisms.
If you are being bitten by something I suspect that it bites and then leaves your skin immediately.

PS. I wouldn't click 'allow notifications' anyway, but I don't recommend anyone do in case it's not genuinely from Insectnet.
