Re: Papilio antimachus - female or male

For those of you who read French, there is a funny book called “ Sa majesté des papillons ” ("Lord of the Butterflies") which recounts a recent French expedition in search of the female antimachus. The expedition received a lot of press coverage... but it was a disastrously organized expedition ...

Papilio antimachus - female or male

Some collectors are being scammed by purchasing female Papilio antimachus (rare in collections) that are actually altered males.
Here are some recent live photos by Sui Fai Pun that clearly show the differences between males and females:

Re: Any French guiana entomologist

Hello,

Welcome here.
The few French Guianan entomologists that I know are working on Amazonian species only. They already have so much work studying their own fauna. I doubt they will be interested in entomo pins or European insects.
When and where do you go inside French Guiana ?

I will be there ...

Re: Beautiful Ab. P. canadensis

Wonderful form congrats !

I thought the fletcheri-like forms were temperature triggered ab so I don't really understand how it can be inheritable. If you can share the paper Chuck, I would be interested to read it.

Delias are unpalatable too. That's why they are at the heart of several mimicry rings in SE Asia and New Guinea.

Re: Forum offline for 2 days

I am glad to say that the fix I made yesterday seems to work. We should see no more "Resource Limit Usage" errors during bot attacks. We will see.

Forum offline for 2 days

Sorry guys, we have been offline for 2 days due to another bot attack who crashed our server and I was far from home to fix it.

I have just spent 2 hours coding something new.
Theorically, it should help. Let's see on the next attack if the server crashes again or not.

Re: Laos - April 2025

It takes 2 days to get back from Phou Samsoum to Luang Prabang, but we had planned for 3 days so as not to miss our return flight in case of a problem on the road (blocked road, accident...). As the return trip took 2 days, we had one day free, so we went hunting in the forest above the Kuang Si ...
