Re: NY Man charged with smuggling birdwings

Agreed Chuck, clearly Charles knew what he was doing, continuing to receive material, he was still operating his business up until not long ago. He was gruffy and perhaps conceited, tempting fate with the feds is not my idea of sound strategy. Looks like Charles is still in business. There is a Dr....

Re: 53 feet (16 meters) above ground

Vernon,
Can you recommend a recipe for a simple fruit bait for general moth collecting use by people who don't have the time and sources to develop their own?
Thanks, Jellybean

Please tell us how to get the collecting permit. Was an export permit also required?

Re: What has changed recently with importing?

I just filled out a 3-177 form, and after a discussion with a FWS agent in Miami, just identified them as "Non-cites BUTT" - ~ 60 specimens. This was for little brown things, but it seems to have satisfied FWS. John John, Was that all you had to do? Perhaps you were bringing those butterf...

Re: A butterfly sampling from Bolivia

You as a U.S. citizen needed a permit to enter the U.S? What kind? Maybe you were referring to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Declaration Form 3-177? That requires a listing of the names of the species you are importing. Were you able to provide the names during your return from Bolivia?

Re: Insect World, San Diego, CA...

I placed an order with Dave De Rosa on 14 Jan 1976 from his 1975 Butterfly Art price list, and several more orders from the 1970's and into the 1990's. About 1985 Dave changed his company name to Insect World. I have a list of insects that I bought from him in 1991 at the Insect Fair at the Los Ange...

Re: What's up with US Saturniidae?

Perhaps one reason is eBay's listing policy which only allows the following live insects to be listed:
Fertilized eggs and Non CITES bees, crickets, and ladybugs. This is per https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/proh ... cy?id=4327

Re: Good news everyone!

Chuck. Great writeup on the tax nightmare being imposed on hobbyists and small businesses. I already complained about this to my Congressman a few ,months ago. Supposedly someone (one?) in Congress is attempting to get the $600 limit increased to a higher amount. I believe that until this $600 was p...

Re: CITES in-depth study

Dear Robert Good to see you here. I highly doubt "many" CITES species are offered in the USA with no Cites (especially above the table) From what I see, only Asian and Russian dealers are non respecting Cites rules. It would be very risky for a dealer to openly break the CITES laws in the...
