In NZ there is an annual cat round up in North Canterbury where school kids go out and shoot feral cats. I'm not kidding. I think it got canned this year. Google it!

One of my earliest memories is of catching this species at the edge of a golf course on Hilton Head in July 1978!
It will always be one of my favourites.So unique!

I only use balsa. Cork is tough and horrible. Bass wood as you say, is far too hard to safely pin in, and ultimately requires relaminating with balsa. I have never tried foam.

But the ssp is hard to say.

Mahogany (Swietenia sp) is incredibly form stable and resistent to pests and easy to work with. I have several solid mahogany British cabinets whose drawers are just as tight as the Meier drawers yet they are 120 years old.
