Re: Mari Felipe, Philippines

I am very happy to say that Mari Felipe has sent replacements and is once again her usual honest and reliable self. She genuinely had some challenges to overcome and has worked very hard to preserve her honesty and reputation. I admire and respect that. Thank you very much Mari Felipe 🙏

Sadly, over time, some people forget about the long-term relationship and goodwill.

Mari Felipe, Philippines

I have had a relationship for a long time, which is why I sent payment before the parcel was sent. Mari asked me to send money first as badly needed for family. Parcel received with bad quality butterflies, eaten by dermestid beetles. The parcel was full of them on arrival eating away at the ...

Re: Visit to Carnegie & Bandrow

After a 14 year (!!!) hiatus, Bob invited me to visit him at Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

Now, what to bring? I don't like to visit anyone without some small gift. I'd mentioned a few beetles I had, but Bob is a Cerambycidologist, a specialist, and the kind reception was rather ho-hum. Now ...

Re: New Papilio paper

Now that Papilio hermeli has been reinstated as a separate species to Papilio chikae, I wonder how this impacts on CITES and the recent inclusion of hermeli as ssp of chikae and thus a butterfly protected under the Convention?

Re: Papilio krishna

D'Abrera (1982) illustrated 2 females. The GART/GloBIS project photographed a pair in the BMNH Type collection which are not the same specimens as those in D'Abrera's book (I have copies of these photos), but these are not available on the Papilio krishna page of the GloBIS website

Re: Ornithoptera meridionalis

Not a perfect pair by a long way & small compared to my other birdwings. Particularly the male.
Glad to have them nevertheless.
Data is for Timika June 2006.
Anyone else got better specimens?

Three males on right hand side and second male on third row in from left from Aseki, Morobe Province ...

Re: Papilio (machaon?) bairdii / brucei

Recent DNA analysis of genus Papilio , on which I am a co-author and has recently been submitted for publication, shows that Papilio bairdii is a separate species to the Palaearctic P. machaon . I wasn't going to mention details until after publication, and will inform Insectnet readers about ...

Papilio (machaon?) bairdii / brucei

Is there a form of bairdii that is yellow, referred to as brucei or do we have two different beasts?

Re: Rare Delias butterflies

Thanks for the info. Amazing. Glad to see there are still butterflies to be discovered. I just got back in phone range after a successful day chasing north americas largest undescribed Papilio. Getting there is half the battle; finding the right spot is the other half. So I understand
