Thanks both, That's definitely it;: Those zig-zag markings are surely singular. We have lots of conifers of different types. Those guides say that they seek indoor shelter to overwinter, and my 2nd photo (on blue) shows it crawling around the outside of our summerhouse (glorified shed). Temperatures...

Spotted this yesterday in Hertfordshire UK on my gate. Still around today.
Can't find it in my British Insects book.
