Cannova Red Golden Flame , a new Canna variety that I started working with this spring - IMG_3448.jpg I also have a specimen of the Cannova Bronze Scarlet cultivar (below). Re: Questionable Question Marks
...in the case of the V atlanta here, which are beat, I suspect that the "beat up butterfly" trend would be visually obvious from individual iNat records during those periods... The atalanta I'm seeing here in TX are nearly all in fine condition - no flight wear at all; definitely from re...

Re: Newbie: looking for info on life cycle times
Hmm… two factors: I would say that it’s the Salt Marsh Moth because I too have seen these guys everywhere this year. It started at the eclipse. I have another in my yard that I’m watching. And also the images of the mature adult look like what I have. Thank you for your time and help. You can readi...

I'm not certain of which species of tiger moth caterpillar you have, but if it's a Giant Leopard Moth (Hypercompe scribonia), here's a page giving the life cycle / time frames - https://www.prairiehaven.com/?page_id=29859 If it's a Salt Marsh Moth (Estigmene acrea) - https://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creat...

Re: Questionable Question Marks
Last week, before it snowed, there was an unusual number of V. atlanta around. It warmed up a bit three days ago, albeit with rain. Today it's 64F and sunny. There are hundreds of atlanta, everywhere. Most are flying fast, I've only observed one alight. They are absolutely beat. So either there was...

Re: Trichiotinus lunulatus
These bugs are out in big numbers right now in E. Texas. Caught at least 30 of them this morning. They are about 10 to 12 mm long and look like miniature metallic green Goliath beetles. All were caught on flowers... Very nice! I've often seen several species of Trichiotinus in my area, including lu...

Just curious. Does anyone else get a message like this " resource limit reached" this happens from time to time, and the page simply won't load ? Conjecture is welcome, but our internet connection is a good one with faster than typical speed, and the computer I use is 6 months old. I get ...

Re: Found in new house inspection!
We found this roach during our new house pre purchase inspection. Very concerned it’s a roach that can be hard to remove once inside. What type? It appears to be a nymph of either the Smoky Brown Cockroach - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokybrown_cockroach or the American Cockroach - https://en.w...

I hope your specimens turn up, and are simply misplaced somewhere in the house; it must be an extremely frustrating situation.

Hi, Im working at the lab trying to identify some insects from the fields of Extremadura, western Spain. I found this Diptera and tried to identify it, but I found it impossible. Re: Can anyone identify these insects?
Hi All, Found these insects in the wood pile (ash) and am curious to know what they are; they don't look much like a wood-boring insect but perhaps they are? They seem to look almost like an ant... There are 2 types that have appeared in abundance; some have wings and some don't; are these perhaps ...

Re: Which kind of roach nymph?
Uncertain, but it may be a nymph of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) - https://bugguide.net/node/view/1254066 Over the years, I've used bait stations (large roach) to control this species, with considerable success. In my case, they seem to be more of a seasonal, intermittent problem, ...

Over the past few weeks, apart from various nymphalids and pierids, I've also been seeing P. polyxenes, P. glaucus, P. cresphontes, and B. philenor in North TX. We've been having a somewhat wetter spring here than usual, and rather mild weather with no significant, sudden changes in temperature.
