Re: Papilio hermeli

Looking more closely at the second male, it looks more like P. chikae based on the spatulate tails. You should check the forewing underside, in hermeli the apical and subapical areas are strongly suffused with grey scales, whereas in chikae these scales are more diffuse, except near the tornal angl...

adamcotton wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:09 pm Actually if this is from West Ecuador it is a separate species to Papilio astyalus, P. anchicayaensis. Thank you for posting the photo of this interesting species.

Adam.
Thanks Adam for the information. Unfortunately the data that was on this only has Ecuador as a location.

After doing a search for something else I found that this butterfly was shown by Trehopr a while back.
My apologies for the redundency.

My female A. mylitta measures at 152mm. The female A. youngi measures at 190mm.

I think that "electric" green male is an aberration. I've never seen one quite like that anywhere this side of the pond ! I think it may be a first 'spring' generation specimen. Probably it is distinctly smaller too. Adam. Adam, It is actually the same size as the other two specimens.
