Polyura dehanii carabus was described by Etsuzo Tsukada in his Butterflies of the South East Asian Islands, Part V, Nymphalidae (II) back in 1991.

They reached Tokyo about 20 years ago. You can see them in parks in central Tokyo, although they are not as common as P. xuthus or P. protenor . It is not a hybrid. It is an artificially made aberration of P. maackii . Some aberrations are made by putting newly formed pupae in the fridge for some time. I also heard you can make spectacular aberrations by injecting a certain kind of chemical in pupae. I don't know how this particular specimen...

It is a common practice here in Japan to use Polyvinyl acetate glue, like Elmer's glue, to stick pupae of lycaenids on a piece of paper. Teak wood must be absolutely dry before making the boxes, otherwise the wood will split. Normally it must be professionally dried, and after that it will be safe to use to store specimens.
