Breeding: Boloria improba
I decided to post this breeding report showing the lifecycle of Boloria improba ssp. improbula from Norway. The catch being that i actually haven't completed the lifecycle a 100% yet, as i'll explain further down. So i collected a female in july last year. She readily laid eggs in the presence of Sa...

Japan April/May 2024
Hello all Im looking into going to Japan for around 2 weeks in April/May next year. I would be interested in doing a dedicated 2-3days of collecting butterflies. I will be travelling a bit around, but be limited to the area between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka. First, i would like to know if there is a sea...

Re: Misc butterflies from French Guyana
Thank you livingplanet.
Regarding the Lycaenidae; i've looked through the Lycaenidae section on the BOA site several times. The specimen is definitely in the Theclinae subfamily. The closest resembling species i've found is Nicolaea dolium and Siderus philinna, but they don't really match 100% either.

Female Morpho marcus/eugenia from French Guyana
I had the pleasure to join Jean-Marc(lepidofrance) and two more frenchmen to French Guyana in March this year. The butterfly numbers were not that great(as mentioned before in other topics about FG), BUT i had a very nice time there. One of my favourite things to experience is to be in rainforests, ...

Re: Hesperiidae from French Guyana
Interesting discussion. I do not have any experience in dissecting butterfly genitalia or other advanced identification methods. I would be willing to send parts of the specimens(legs or whatever), or the whole specimens themselves for that matter, for analysis and identification studies. Just point...

Re: Hesperiidae from French Guyana
Thanks again John. Yes those small dark/black ones are indeed hard!
I had a look on nr 1 and 2, and nr 1(which is the best quality specimen) does have a weak purpleish sheen on the upper 2/3 of the ventral hindwings.

Re: Hesperiidae from French Guyana
Thank you John! You are right, nr 1 and 2 are the same size as the Calpodes. It looks like Damas clavus it the closest bet so far for sure. I have a few more hesperiidae that im currently trying to figure out. I will probably post them aswell after having a look myself first.
