I'm not convinced that's actually a gynandromorph. It looks all female, just half black form, half yellow form to me. I could be very wrong though, beetles are really my thing.

I'm surprised the genus Prionocalus hasn't been mentioned yet. It's strange enough that I've seen specimens being sold as Lucanids. Here's my specimen.

I've always been fascinated by this genus, but I've only acquired one specimen at this time, a female possible P. ijenensis from West Java.

Another cool genus is Amblycheila from the western U.S. and northern Mexico. I've only had the opportunity to catch A. cylindriformis on the Great Plains.

It's worth mentioning that while this species resembles the genus Dynastes in form, it actually belongs in the genus Augosoma along with one other species (A. hippocrates). There seems to be no record of either species being formally known as a Dynastes species.

Interestingly, I've actually noticed there seem to usually be more Manduca sexta/quinquemaculatus caterpillars on jalapeno and other hot peppers than on bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant. Possibly due to less vertebrate predation?

Dragonflies can be tricky, especially from this angle. But try Pachydiplax longipennis

It's actually a Long-horned Caddisfly (family Leptoceridae). A cool group, and not uncommon in the right habitat in my experience.

Btw, they are super easy to feed once you get them home, they'll eat pretty much anything that resembles an insect, plus small fish, small tadpoles, and snails. But, interestingly, they they typically don't bother conspecifics, at least if fed regularly. They're also super easy to breed.

All of the specimens I've collected were at UV and/or MV lights. They spend the majority of their time underground.
