Re: Hebomoia glaucippe
Very nice! Certainly, this must be among the most impressive of the larger pierids. Of note in this species, is that its wings contain glacontryphan-M, a potent peptide toxin, which is also a component of the venom of cone snails (Conus spp.). Cone snails use this peptide (delivered via a stab ...

Re: New tariff on insects for American collectors ?
Yep, when Brexit came in, eBay started charging us 20% VAT on evertything from the EU AND the rest of the world, which had never previously happened. This means that everything bought on eBay now costs 20% more, which is why I never use it anymore, along with, I'm sure, many other people. Yet ...

Re: Remember these reference books? And antiques
Wonderful collection of books Chuck. Have a few of them on my own bookcases. Particularly loved the Phil DeVries book on Costa Rican butterflies. I have that one & the one he published on Costa Rican Riodinidae.

Joseph's Coat Moth. Agarista agricola. Australia
Recently acquired this bred pair of these exquisite day flying Australian moths. Ten years ago while in central Queensland I saw a single male on the wing which I tried in vain to net. Nice to finally have this species in my collection.

Re: Marvel
Kallima knyvetti is still missing from my collection. That looks to be a great specimen.
I recently received two spectacular Kallima from Viet Nam. Believe they are forms of K inachus alboinachus.
The oriental leaf butterflies truly are "marvels"

Three undersides of Hypna(Anaea)clytemnestra.
Have always found the underside of this species very attractive.
I think the female from Brazil is subspecies huebneri.

I agree that undersides can be just as beautiful as uppersides. A male Sephisa Chandra from Taiwan & a female from Vietnam.
A female Kallima inachus alboinachus also from Viet Nam before going into the relaxer.

Nice idea for a thread Trehopr.
I finally got a dry season form of Precis/Junonia amlana from China. (The wet season form is smaller & a different shape). I set/spread it yesterday. I use strips of tracing paper for setting so took this picture to show the wings & antennae before they were correctly ...

Re: Cabbage Butterfly: simple beauty, resilient, & adaptive.
It has always been a strange phenomenon in my part of the U.K. that the spring brood of this butterfly which flies here in April & May is considerably less frequent that the summer brood flying from July onwards. The summer brood is probably the commonest late summer butterfly here but I only ...

A pair of Charaxes cacuthis collected in Madagascar in 2000.
Don't think these are particularly rare but thought they were worth posting in this thread anyway. This is the only pair in my collection. Shown upperside & underside.

Re: Rarities in Charaxes
About two years ago I managed to get some male specimens of Polyura posidonius from Tibet for the first time. It is a small (for the genus) but beautiful species. Probably not that rare but always considered a bit of a "holy grail". By me at least...
