Re: Enough already, with the fake aberrations

Interesting topic. And not easy one .... abberants catched in nature and "created" by chemical injections or gene manipulation are far ends of whole spectrum. I personally never tried doing aberrants by use of chemicals ( although know process ), but several times "created" abber...

Re: Heraclides/Eurytides from Frech Guyana

Agree with Adam that all your specimens are Heraclides garleppi ssp.lecerfi. Rather rare and valuable butterfly, especially females. In addition I never saw in life or in any literature female with such extended white markings on forewings as your last female although female is rather variable from ...

Re: Bozano series Papilionidae IV published

Great book - just arrived. Good addition to series. I like simplified subspecies tree with machaon - especially many southeuropean ssp were ridiculous, also alexanor merging is probably justifiable. To be true I am little surprised that ssp.sylvina from Taiwan remains only subspecies, it is rather d...

Re: Strange pupae development

I attached quick photo of how are/were pupae placed. They are partially on one side for better stabilization. Using such position for many years, until now without problem. All pupae are placed same way. Part that fails to develop is one closer to bottom of box - always, but have also one pupa which...

Re: Strange pupae development

Thank you both for reactions. Larvae were wild collected. Now I think Adam can be right with some form of desiccation. I have several pupae affected exactly same way and what is strange - it is same side of pupaes. As I am laying all pupae on one side :) to have clear look on one side of wing part t...

Strange pupae development

Hi, Although I already reared many hundreds Papilios, now I found strange pupae development I never saw until now. I would like to ask another experienced breeders what can cause this anomaly. What is found is when pupa starting to pharate , one side of pupae is visible to develop, but oposite one d...

Re: New Papilio paper

Wow, huge changes. And some are rather surprising. Some expected are not here, f.e. I red many times that Chilasa clytia from Lesser Sundas ( echidna, takizawai ) are maybe something different. Area of Chilasa clytia is rather interesting. Also probably Graphiums will follow as area of distribution ...

Re: Who has "all" the Papilionid?

I am collecting Papilionidae for more than 30 years now. Do not know exact number of missing species, lets say probably less than 30. I am pretty far from rich person. Did not bought single collection, all was bought piece after piece. As for females situation is of course much worse - surely more t...
