Re: Euphaedra
Secondly a photo taken of part of my drawer showing the same rattrayi males as in the above picture in the right column, with a similar species E alacris males in the left column. These latter alacris specimens are from Kivu. I will leave this subject here for the moment and see if I can add more re...

Re: Euphaedra
Definitely a difficult group. J Hecq says that E rattrayi is very common in Kivu and Uganda (Lambillionea . Vol 91. No 3- September 1991), and also mentions a subspecies coeruleomaculata. This first picture shows some specimens from Western Kenya (Kakamega) that I have identified as E rattrayi coeru...

Re: Papilio mechowi & Papilio gallienus
Col. 4, specimen 10. I don't know what to say about this one, but if it's from Kalinzu Forest it's not going to be gallienus like I thought. Can I get a photo of the dorsal surface? (This may be a "stick in the spokes" of my hypothesis...) Column 4 Specimen 10 Both sides of this specimen....

Re: Papilio mechowi & Papilio gallienus
Col. 3, Specimens 1 & 2.: I was sure these were gallienus (based on the FW discal band), but the location makes that more than improbable. (Now that I look at it again, the shape of the HW of #2 is that of mechowi). Could I see dorsal/ventral pics of these too? Pictures of the two specimens fro...

Re: Papilio mechowi & Papilio gallienus
Outside of those 2 specimens, looking at the first 4 specimens of Col. 1 again, and I'm far less certain they are gallienus than before. If it's not too much trouble, could you post pics of these as well? Here are pics of both sides of the four specimens in Column 1 that you listed. DSC00651.JPG DS...

These are the two “uncertain” gallienus from Column 2 that you requested pictures of. First each showing the surface as in the drawer and in the next picture the opposite surface.

Re: Papilio mechowi & Papilio gallienus
Here is a list of collection localities as you requested. Some photos to follow. 1st Column (from the left) 1. P. gallienus (certain but ventral HW needed to confirm) Bangui, CAR 2. P. gallienus (certain but dorsal HW needed to confirm) Mbaiki, CAR 3. P. gallienus (fairly certain, ventral HW needed ...

Cabintom,
can you please tell me the author and article reference for the change to Junonia? I am not aware of this paper.

Re: Papilio mechowi & Papilio gallienus
Interesting request. Here is a quick photo of my drawer covering these two species. Any help? I can take close up pictures of individual specimens if you tell me which ones. I hope that I have the identifications correct.

Re: "Glasswing" Butterflies...
Does this count as a “glasswing”?
Acraea semivitrea from western Uganda. A male above a female. The top male specimen was one of my first ever captures as a schoolboy. The photo has been deliberately taken over a map to emphasise wing clarity.

Re: Papilio saharae.
Thank you Adam for your comments and information on sphyrus. I am not aware that Papilio saharae is found on the island of Lesvos, just off the coast of Turkey. So presumably this pair from Lesvos is Papilio machaon. Would I be right in labelling them as subspecies syriacus? Syriacus, I believe is f...

Re: Papilio saharae.
Thank you for your comments. Have I got these specimens correctly identified? The data labels say where they came from. The top specimen I have labelled as a male Papilio saharae saharae. The bottom two as Papilio machaon mauretanica (= sphyrus), with a male on the left and a female on the right. DS...

Papilio saharae.
Here is a picture of a species of Papilio that I feel very lucky to have obtained. Sent to me some time ago, a pair of Papilio saharae rathjensi Warnecke, 1922. Collected in Yemen.

Re: Pseudacraea
Without detracting from the genus Pseudacraea I thought it may be of interest to show a drawer of a very similar genus. This genus is Mimacraea in the family Lycaenidae. It shows that many species of Mimacraea are quite similar to the Pseudacraea and they follow a similar range of mimicry. They are,...

Re: Genus: Colias
Just to expand on the subject of Colias I can add that this genus also occurs throughout Africa. This drawer shows specimens of several species from Cameroon across to Yemen and then all the way to South Africa. Some of the species are very localised and nowhere is it generalised. Again, sorry for t...

Re: Genus: Epitola
I have to disagree with the above since I have had little problem obtaining Lycaenidae from local African collectors and from colleagues interested generally in butterflies. The range of species within Africa is tremendous and very varied. Below are two boxes of, at the moment, unsorted species. The...

Re: Pseudacraea
In response to the above post by Cabintom here is Pseudacraea imerina imerina (Hewitson, 1865), from La Mandraka, Madagascar. These two are males. Also, there are two male P acholica in the box of mixed, unsorted Pseudacraea that I posted earlier in this thread. The two slightly isolated specimens i...
