Re: Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (P. glaucus) (dark phase/form)
Chuck says "Notably, both appalachiensis and canadensis have a rare dark female form". I would love to see a photo, more info, etc. on a dark fm female canadensis... that would be a real rarity IMHO.

Re: desinfextion
Hi Jshuey, Excellent point on destroying DNA with supplemental heat, which many of us may not have even considered. I've never liked the idea of cooking bugs in an oven... except, perhaps, in rare instances, in very humid jungles... to prevent rot/pest infestation of larger bodied specimens. John K.

Re: Any Thysania agrippina experts out there?
Hi Panacanthus, Beautiful specimens nicely spread. I have for years, sexed a lot of moths, in questionable cases, by examining the frenulum; moths usually (not always) have a frenulum, which is a wing-coupling device that joins together the forewing and hindwing. Look at the base of the wings on the...

Re: USA source for glassine specimen envelopes
Re: Glassine Envelopes, I can't figure out why glassine envelopes sold in N. Am. are so terribly expensive? To get a 1,000 count of #1 envelopes costs around a hundred bucks up here in Canada & in the U.S.A, even more, with the poor exchange rate. I went online & found very similar (identica...

Re: Gynandromorphs! Lucky find of Speyeria cybele
Here is an old photo, posted in Clark's insectnet.com, of the only gynandromorph I have ever collected: Bilateral Gyn. of G.S. Fritillary.jpg This was collected in late July 1992... a year prior, in 1991, the volcano Mt. Pinatubo, in the Philippines blew it's top spewing ash high up into the atmosph...

An interesting, recent (2023), uncommonly seen, bug fair from Taiwan featuring mostly beetles (& a few leps.) The first half is a bit boring & features live beetles (some giants though...); last half (30 minutes total) is mostly beautifully mounted deadstock beetles & leps. What spectacu...

Re: Strange Pairing
Hi jwa121, I find a few strange pairings like these almost every season in my light traps. I have found 3 such pairings already (different spp.) this season alone. Your example is very interesting due to the huge difference in size between those 2 spp.. Also was this a male to female pairing? Many t...

Re: Clear, self ballasted, 450w M.V. Bulbs
Earlier on in this M.V. thread I mentioned the existence of mercury vapor bulbs of 1,500 watts & even 2,000 watts. The huge 2,000 watt stadium bulb was seen only once or twice on ebay years ago & I have never seen one offered again. I just did some searching around on both Amazon.ca & Am...
