Re: Butterflies and 14,000 Ft. Peaks

Thanks Chuck! I was bummed that we got rained out. We actually bailed on camping the second night because it was raining so hard. We left for home at about 6 o'clock. My daughter is an outdoors person so getting her to go with me is easy. She is the one that drags my sorry butt up those mountains! I...

Butterflies and 14,000 Ft. Peaks

Last summer my daughter and I took a trip to Kite Lake, a high altitude location near Alma Colorado in the central part of the state. I had planned on collecting and filming a lot of butterflies, but the rain kept me from my ultimate goal regarding insects. Here is some footage of our experience cam...

Re: My Neominois Investigation

Thanks for the note! Sorry for not posting videos, I have more raw footage from this past collecting season that I'm working on, so I'll have another video soon. I also have a video I posted last month that I'll throw up on here. Some leps but not a lot. As far as habitat goes... it is fairly dry th...

Re: Butterflies of Erikson Springs Colorado

My favorite thing to look for in the Erickson Springs/Dark Canyon area is hairstreaks, besides the already mentioned Hypaurotis crysalus, there are also several species of Satyrium in the area. https://i.ibb.co/X7mp2dK/20221002-151812.jpg These were all taken on July 18, 2014 other than the last on...

Re: Butterflies of Erikson Springs Colorado

Wonderful video! Was straining my eyes to see any beetles! I've seen Stictoleptura canadensis and Pseudogaurotina cressoni in the campground as well as a prionid in the treetops that didn't want to come down. Erikson Springs is certainly a wonderful place! I remember your comments about being there...

I have collected Prionus and a few longicorns at the campground while light trapping. I'm not much of beetle guy, but always look for the showy ones.

Butterflies of Erikson Springs Colorado

This is a video I made last summer after collecting the Colorado Hairstreak. Erikson Springs is in Gunnison County Colorado and is one of my favorite places to search for butterflies and light trap moths. Hope you enjoy the video.

The Genus Oeneis on Cottonwood Pass, Gunnison County Colorado

My daughter and I were up on Cottonwood Pass, Colorado in July and filmed a little so I made a short video of the area. Cottonwood Pass is best known to Lepidopterists because of Oeneis tagyete, an arctic butterfly first discovered in Colorado on Cottonwood Pass by Bernard Rotger in 1941. Hope you e...

Re: Exploring Hemileuca eglanterina Country

Great video, and timely! I was on exhausting travel with interrupted internet access, only my phone, and with only 10 minutes of down time before sleep, and watched it twice. The editing is amazingly professional- very impressive! I was surprised at the large size of eglanterina. Our local Hemileuc...

I live about 250 miles west of Denver. We are only about 30-40 from Utah. Several of my YouTube videos are from this area.

Re: Exploring Hemileuca eglanterina Country

Thanks John! I appreciate the kind words! My daughter and I just enjoy recording as we explore. The sheep moths were quite a surprise. Usually they are hard to catch. They fly quickly. I brought home 5 specimens that were so fresh I collected with my hands. Eurytides is correct, they are all on my Y...

Exploring Hemileuca eglanterina Country

Hello Everyone! I have posted some videos in the past on the Insect Collectors forum but thought I'd post now here as well. My video shows a trip my daughter and I took up on the Uncompahgre Plateau in Mesa County Colorado. Our find of the day was Hemileuca eglanterina, just eclosing up on top! I ho...
