Check the drawer dates. Maybe you mixed up the chronological order.

A friend of mine has traveled with him several times and highly recommends him as a travel guide. He takes care o...

Re: Anisota virginiensis
A. virginiensis & D. rubicunda (along with A. stigma) are common in the pineywoods north of Houston. I captured a couple of males sitting on a wall back in March. Yes, the transparent forewings are very cool. I once saw about a dozen of them hovering in place about a foot off the ground. Impress...

Re: Thoughts on NABA?
I personally do not like NABA's anti-collecting stance. They sometimes harass collectors, so I try to avoid NABA people. I keep a copy of P.17 of the Kaufmann Field Guide in my car, which explains that collecting has almost zero effect on butterfly populations and that the "bad guys" are t...

Re: Using absolutes: always, never
The use of absolutes bothers me because there are no absolute certainties in nature, although many things come close. When a meteorologist says that there is a 100% chance of rain, he knows it's never that certain but close enough that his forecast will most likely come true. It would be more accura...

Re: Making a butterfly decoy
There is a metallic blue mylar balloon stuck in a tree near my house. It looks a lot like a morpho. Maybe it would be a good lure.

Re: Live butterflies exhibit
Yes, it's the Cockrell. Mike Whitley's collection is still owned by the museum but most of it is kept in a building that is not adjacent to the main museum. He kept collecting after he sold the collection. He is now deceased but his wife has the specimens he collected after the sale. I don't know ho...

Re: Live butterflies exhibit
There is a similar butterfly dome in Houston. They used to sell the specimens that had died for $2 each, but they had to stop doing that for legal reasons.
