Re: Blood Sucking Mites living on our skin

I am not seeing anything that looks like a living organism, at least not an Arthopod. Good photography, but they look like sand grains to me.
Perhaps someone else has better eyes.

Mystery moth

This surprise moth hatched from a cocoon (pictured) supposed to have been Epiphora sp. Origin Central Africa I tried an image search, (for the first time) and found something similar. Gonometa sp. looked close, but not exact. Amazing cocoon construction, hard as a rock. All the material is identical...

Re: resource limit reached

Super!
I was unsure if it was happening to others, and the way to find out is to ask. As good as my provider claims to be, one never knows,
streaming takes a nap often enough, and the official answers from tech support are usually laughable, or simply annoying.

Re: Found in new house inspection!

The inspector might have identified it for you, but as a former contractor I never put much faith in home inspectors to begin with.
Before you move in, try some bug bombs, or traps, professional pest control is dubious.

resource limit reached

Just curious.
Does anyone else get a message like this " resource limit reached" this happens from time to time, and the page simply won't load ?
Conjecture is welcome, but our internet connection is a good one with faster than typical speed, and the computer I use is 6 months old.

Re: Thoughts on NABA?

Photos of wild insects are just pretty pictures, even in some of my guide books, by well known persons have less than stellar photos, and I take pictures as well, they go in the digital photo frame.
Next time use a better acronym.

I'm glad you sorted it out Chuck.
What I typically do from time to time, is rearrange things, and put them in "better" places. That's when they go missing.

Re: Clothes moths infestation — Tineola Bisselliella and Monopis Crocicapitella

All these conclusions may be accurate. Other than childish amusement, I am missing the point of the original post. Even without being an expert on clothes moths, I found the premise to be virtually impossible, this is what often happens when people, or robots, step out of their field of expertise an...

Try some better synthetic clothing. My first impression is that there is something other than an insect at work. Your efforts at abatement seem
quite extensive, and I am having trouble envisioning the moth conspiracy which is plaguing you.

Foreign languages may present a challenge, but for the open minded they are not insurmountable. Top Easy. After a week in Naples, I was told by my sister's husband I was speaking better than people who had been at the base for more than a year. It's a sign of respect. Without a "smartphone&quo...

Re: Shiiping dead insects from other countries into the USA

That was ambitious. Multiple topics about importing have popped up here from time to time. Your purpose doesn't matter, the Gov. wants to be involved. I have experience circumventing the process, but it's not recommended, I can only say it's a risk and if you do get your shipment, I wouldn't try it ...

There's no such thing as a "controlled burn" Ask the CA Dept. of Forestry. When I lived in Humboldt, they had 2 get of of hand and caused a mess.
There is a database of Pacific Northwest leps I use, never heard of the NABA, doesn't sound like I want to.

Kevin, how in god's name does someone get robbed while conducting field work? What did you do, stumble into a pot field Chuck, to be fair, I wasn't robbed at gunpoint. Although I've "lost" a kayak and other equipment, it was sneak thieves that saw an opportunity. This is an interesting th...

Re: Agrias butterflies

es, there are places to avoid. In USA, the red/blue voting map is a good start- stay out of red areas. The good thing is that there aren't many insects of interest in the red areas. These areas are largely urban areas, and the same rule applies elsewhere- avoid. This is, of course, dependent on the...

Sphingid females and pheromones

My copy of The Hawk Moths of North America doesn't have much information on using virgin females to attract males, has anyone tried it with Smerinthus? I have a female cerisyi and hope to attract some local males with her. I have the pupa outdoors in a screen box, protected from the rain so she has ...

So you don't feel ignored- the pictures are not definitive, and do appear to show 2 different moths, unless someone is familiar with that particular
moth, it's going to be difficult to identify.

Re: Using absolutes: always, never

I will end with that statement I often repeat: The only persons that don't make mistakes are those that do not do anything. Now this is a 100% certainty, then maybe not. Exactly what I said once to my employer at the roofing company when one of my coworkers claimed he never made mistakes, after I, ...

Re: Using absolutes: always, never

Yes, there are exceptions to virtually everything. I think people use "figures of speech" and that's where "absolutes" pop up. For instance, the old saying is the only certainties in life are death and taxes, I would argue that taxes are not a certainty, and we can only count on ...
