So many topics about him :

He has ruined his e-reputation for few bucks...

I am sure some people have stop collecting, raising moth because of bad experience with these thieves.

It's a good example of rigor mortis, which passes some time after death. The muscles will have 'relaxed' which made the jaws moveable again.

I think I was instrumental in his being banned from InsectNet, he must be operating from some other platform or persona.
Don't worry, you won't get anything to apologize for, luckily for me, I used goods and services and was able to retrieve my money.
The guy is knowledgable, he had me going, until he didn't.
To me, these things are just inexplicable, it has to be apathy, because I don't think you can retire fleecing people for moth eggs.

That guy is a thorn in the side of entomologists. Some day he’s going to get himself in trouble.

Beware - Matthew Nochisaki

by Mookie » Thu Jun 12, 2025 5:07 am

Add me to the list of people who have been ripped off by Matthew Nochisaki. Paid him $40 on May 19 for some Hyalophora cecropia eggs, and he's been stringing me along ever since. He's traveling, or he sold too many eggs and is waiting for the next batch to be laid, or his family will handle it, or the eggs should arrive this coming weekend - the list is endless. And now he's gone silent. If only I had googled him before I sent him money. At this point, I'm not even going to apologize or withdraw my post if the eggs show up. If you advertise that you have stock, you ship it within a couple days of receiving payment. Period. (Edit: Last night, after I posted in numerous places about getting ripped off by this guy, he refunded me. With a note saying "Delete the posts as you have been refunded". Needless to say, I'm not deleting the posts. But I'm happy to disclose that he finally paid me back.

It's been awhile since I've done a painting, but I finally got around to it. Canvas size is 36 x 36 inches. Done in acrylic.

A white Papilio memnon ♀ from Bali Is.

by Leonard187 » Wed Jun 11, 2025 1:54 pm

I got a specimen of Papilio memnon ♀ from Bali Is. and it seems very white compared with other individuals. Is it form hiera? I also got several other ones from Bali Is., Buru Is. as well as Java Is. Are they f. isarcha and f. hiera respectively? How many forms of tailess female P. memnon?

Is your friend an Insectnet member? It is possible the spammer just lifted the name 'InsectNet' (with a large N!) off the internet.

I have not received anything, and if other members haven't then I think the membership data has not been compromised.

"InsectNet CEO scam" - Jason Littler

by wollastoni » Tue Jun 10, 2025 5:00 pm

Hello

A friend of mine just received that email :

Hello,

Do you have a moment to correspond with me via email? I have an obligation that I would like you to complete ASAP.

Regards,
Jason Littler
CEO
InsectNet
5 avenue du Port Sibouliere,
35800 Dinard, France

There is no "Jason Littler" in InsectNet, no "CEO", I am the only owner.
So of course don't answer these emails. I have no idea how they got my friends' email, I have no idea if they contacted other members too.

Male Stag Beetle jaws and spreading

by kevinkk » Tue Jun 10, 2025 3:02 pm

I have a recently expired Lucanus elephus male, what I am having, or am going to have an issue with is spreading the jaws, when he was alive, he'd stand and his jaws would be spread far apart, you could've put your thumb in there, but now, the jaws are more or less closed, and I am having a
frustrating time getting them apart. I'll give up before I snap off something. Is there a secret, and what is it?

Thank you for posting. The nireus species group is among my favorites of the African Papilios, with their iridescent, greenish/bluish markings. :)

From what I can see of the male forewing underside it is NOT Papilio chrapkowskii Suffert, 1904, so it could be Papilio chrapkowskoides ('bromius') but I suspect it is Papilio interjectana Vane-Wright, 1995. However, I don't think Papilio chrapkowskoides actually reaches W Kenya. It is in Uganda and westwards from there.

The forewing underside of Papilio chrapkowskii has a 'two-tone' apex, somewhat similar to the female above but less obvious, whereas the apex of male P. chrapkowskoides and P. interjectana is unicoloured brown.

This group needs revision, and I would be interested to hear the opinion of some of the members who are more familiar with these than I am.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your input. Today I have taken some more pictures of the male and the female.

What do you think?

All the best, Marco

Olivier,

Thank you very much for posting all the photos and narrating your adventures. I agree, Laos is a really interesting country and I would strongly encourage anyone to go there. If you want to see very many (mostly) commoner species mud-puddling along streams in lower elevation forest I recommend going at the end of February and early March. It is not as hot then as in April, and the spring flight is at its peak with most univoltine Papilionidae also flying then.

By the way, if you look carefully you can see there is a Graphium macareus indochinensis mud-puddling with the upper of the two Papilio helenus above.

Adam.
